Happy New Year

Every Wednesday Dunwoody United Methodist Church sends out a devotion that they call "Wednesday's Word" via email. This past Wednesday Wiley, the Senior Pastor sent these words of wisdom to the congregation regarding the coming of the new year.

"For most of us, Christmas is winding down. In fact, many of us are already busy about the task of taking down the decorations, though some will wait for the twelve days of Christmas. It is fitting that for this coming Sunday, our Gospel deals with the arrival of the wise men from the East. Their entry completes the birth stories for us. But this story is not as peaceful as the one in Luke about shepherds and angels. There is danger as Herod seeks inside information from the wise men. But the wise men are warned by an angel to find another road home, than the one that took them through Jerusalem.

Someone has defined insanity as doing something over and over again, while expecting different results. There are areas in all of our lives in which we need to find a "different road" to travel, if we want to reach the goal we seek. The coming of a new year is a wonderful time to reset our course where needed, so that when this time comes at the end of 2011, we will indeed see different results. The key of the Gospel is that the warning for another road came from the Lord. It is not just a matter of what we might desire, but what God would have us to do."

As we say goodbye to 2010 and begin 2011, remember to make sure you're headed down the path that God would want you to take!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
